Panel discussion: Looking behind the culture of fear

Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Budapest is organizing the study launch 'Looking behind the culture of fear: Cross-national analysis of attitudes towards migration’.
Date: 2th March 2018, 10 a.m.
Venue: Kossuth Klub, 1088 Budapest, Múzeum u 7.
Fear and rejection of migrants and foreigners is so widespread in some European countries that it can be seen as a socially shared norm, while in other countries acceptance of migrants and ethno-racial diversity is a widely-shared value. With the recent wave of mass migration, these dissimilarities in attitudes have moved to the forefront of public discussion, and there is consequently a need for a deeper understanding of cross-national differences.
In order to contribute to this debate, the study „Looking behind the culture of fear” by Vera Messing and Bence Ságvári investigates potential factors behind country-specific patterns of anti-migrant attitudes in European countries. The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion with experts from Italy, Poland, Germany and Hungary on the topic.

The study is going to be commented by:
